About Harbor Knoll

A Historic Inn on the Bay

Harbor Knoll sits on a gentle hill that leads to a private beach overlooking Shelter Island. The Inn’s private dock is ideal for fishing and stargazing.

Harbor Knoll is one of Greenport’s most historic homes. The house was built in 1870 for a family from Georgia who moved north each summer to escape the southern heat. The gracious living of that time is suggested by the elegant flow of rooms that sends one into a relaxed state of mind. Previous owners of the home include a mayor of Greenport and the niece of General Custer.

The home was purchased by Gordon and Leueen Miller in 1973 as a summer home for their family. Unfortunately, Gordon Miller, a retired attorney who practiced law in Manhattan for over 40 years, passed away 2 years ago. Leueen Miller, an Irish diplomat, is retired from a 35-year career in international development at the United Nations. With their three children now grown up and with families of their own, Gordon and Leueen opted to turn their summer home into an inn in 2001.

The inn’s traditional décor reflects the Miller family’s British and Irish heritage. It also reflects Leueen Miller’s international travel and Gordon Miller’s intellectual interests in history. Leueen truly enjoys meeting her guests, learning about their fascinating lives, and helping them to get the most out of their stay.

About the Grounds

First things first, we are happy to offer private, off-street parking for our guests.

Our grounds include over an acre of beautifully landscaped gardens and lawn. The English flower and herb gardens provide the perfect touch of beauty and tranquility to this seaside experience. Doze in the shade of trees over one hundred years old or bask in the sun on a lounge chair on the beach. Wherever you are on the grounds, you’ll enjoy breathtaking views of the sparking bay.
